Many fluorinated gases – CFCs, HFCs, PFCs – were widely used in the production of insulation foams, until it was discovered the significant damage they cause to the ozone layer and their contribution to the global warming. Nowadays, European regulations ban its production and use. However, these gases can remain for 3 or 4 decades in the foams that were produced before 1995.
