Commission plans to put forward soil health law in 2023

According to the Commission Work Programme for 2023 that was released on 18th October, the European Commission plans to put forward a “EU Soil health Law” in Q2 2023, following up on the EU Soil Strategy 2030 “Reaping the benefits of healthy soils for people, food, nature and climate”.FIEC participated in the Public Consultation that closed on 24th October.

The Commission is also considering an update of the “Construction and Demolition Waste Protocol” in 2023.

However, according to the work programme, the upcoming revision of the Waste Framework Directive (WFD), planned for Q2 2023, will mainly cover aspects related to food and textile waste rather than construction waste.

The revised Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and the recast Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) are categorised as one of the “priority pending proposals” for 2023.

A ”zero pollution” package, a second circular economy package and a climate package, including a proposal on carbon removal certifications, are due to be presented by the end of November.

Fruitful visit of delegates of FIEC’s Norwegian member federation EBA in Brussels

On Friday 21st October, a delegation from our Norwegian member federation EBA – led by Kjetil Tonning, Honorary President of FIEC –  paid a visit to the EU district in Brussels, to the institutions and to FIEC: a fruitful exchange worth a snapshot.Although Norway is not an EU Member State, it applies most of the EU legislation: a very good reason for being present in Brussels via our federation FIEC and an interesting occasion to network all about and around the construction sector.
