Benchmark Study – New Mobility & Road Infrastructure

In collaboration with FIEC and the Confederation of International Contractors’ Associations (CICA), the European Union Road Federation (ERF), Routes de France and our Member Fédération Nationale des Travaux Publics (FNTP) has finalised an international benchmark study, initiated in March 2019. It covers 20 countries around the world and presents an overview of the impact on new mobility usages on the road infrastructure and its equipment.

“Tachograph” – new legislation published in the Official Journal of the EU

REGULATION (EU) 2020/1054 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 15 July 2020, amending Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 as regards minimum requirements on maximum daily and weekly driving times, minimum breaks and daily and weekly rest periods and Regulation (EU) No 165/2014 as regards positioning by means of tachographs, have been published in the OJEU (dated 31/07/2020, L249/1).

This new legislation allows for extended derogations to the use of tachographs for construction companies.

#COVID-19 – European Commission proposes better coordination of measures restricting free movement in the EU

On 4th September, the European Commission adopted a proposal for a Council recommendation seeking to guarantee that all of the measures taken by Member States to restrict free movement due to the coronavirus pandemic are coordinated and clearly communicated at EU level.

The Commission’s proposal sets out four key areas where Member States should work closer together:

  1. Common criteria and thresholds for Member States when deciding whether to introduce travel restrictions;
  2. Mapping of common criteria using an agreed colour code;
  3. A common framework for measures applied to travellers from high-risk areas;
  4. Clear and timely information to the public about any restrictions.
