The housing crisis is a pressing issue affecting all European Union countries and is becoming increasingly severe. Τhe crisis stems from a variety of causes, and although several measures have been implemented to address it, through the gradual rollout of housing policy programs across Europe, the common denominator remains the need to increase housing supply while supporting vulnerable groups in accessing affordable housing.
In the case of Greece, where the crisis is equally severe, measures to tackle it are currently inadequate, as the necessary policies to boost supply are still lacking. In summary, various findings, which will be analyzed in detail in this report, show that the crisis in the housing market is not only here but is in full swing.
In light of the emergence of the multi-layered problem of the housing crisis in Europe, FIEC, of which PEDMEDE is an active member, has gathered data from all its member associations on the current situation and existing or possible measures.
PEDEMEDE’s representative in FIEC’s WG on Housing, Mr. Loukas Papageorgiou, supported by the European Programs Department, recorded the current situation in Greece and proposed possible solutions.
