On 5 March, PEDMEDE participated in the meeting of the Working Group for Social Dialogue on Vocational Education and Training together with other European construction sector organisations and representatives of the European Union, which was jointly organised by FIEC and EFBWW and took place in Brussels.
One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation of the Union of Skills programme, which was published on the same day by the European Commission. The programme aims to strengthen the European workforce and has three main objectives:
– Strengthening skills for quality jobs and smooth transitions.
– Skills mobility across the EU, regardless of where or how they were acquired, allowing workers to make full use of their knowledge.
– Strengthening the competitiveness of businesses by assisting them in finding the necessary talent, while creating a better environment for businesses in the construction sector.
The meeting also presented the Construction Blueprint and Excel4Housing European projects , in which PEDMEDE participates as a partner. These programmes aim to develop skills that respond to the current needs of the construction and housing sector, providing industry professionals with tools and opportunities to develop and meet the labour market demands.
In addition, during the meeting methods of attracting more women to the construction sector were discussed, showcasing examples of good practices from European social partners.
