The urgent need to adapt infrastructure and housing to the escalating challenges of the climate crisis was at the heart of a recent interview given by Piero Petrucco, President of the European Construction Industry Federation (FIEC), to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA).
The interview followed the FIEC Annual Conference and General Assembly, both hosted in Athens by PEDMEDE, under the central theme “Building Tomorrow: Solutions for Water Resilience and Blue Infrastructure.”
Mr. Petrucco highlighted the key role of the construction industry in delivering resilient infrastructure, managing water resources, and addressing Europe’s growing housing crisis. He also addressed critical questions on the future capacity of existing infrastructure, the cost of climate adaptation, and the need for coordinated investment and EU-level support.
“The time for action is now,” he stated, underlining the urgency for both public and private sectors to prioritize climate-resilient infrastructure and sustainable housing solutions.
