Digitalising construction: win-win relationships

 

FIEC hosted a meeting for contractors and software companies last week, to discuss how to build win-win relationships.  In a positive atmosphere, speakers from both kinds of company explained how they saw the current relationship and talked about some of the challenges that need tackling together. While software companies do not have all the answers, they were able to say that they are not looking to replace contractors, but rather to find solutions together with construction companies, to accelerate the digitalisation of the industry.  Instant polls held during the event revealed that almost 90% of participants thought that digitalisation is vital, for the industry to stay competitive.  More information on the polls can be found below.

Joint Statement on third country national workers and companies in the EU construction market

 

As the number of third-countries workers is continuously increasing in the EU construction market, FIEC and EFBWW, the European sectoral social partners, issued a joint statement emphasising the need for a level playing field for companies and for a framework ensuring an appropriate protection of these workers against risks of exploitation.

In this joint statement, FIEC and EFBWW also highlight the accountability of Member States to prevent fraudulent practices and to ensure an effective enforcement of the existing rules. In this respect, inspection bodies need to be adequately staffed, in order to be able to play their key role.

SuSodCo project event on 28 & 29 June

 

A further virtual Capacity Building Event will take place on 28 and 29 June 2021. This event organised by our Bulgarian Member BCC as part of the SuSodCo project will be devoted to Digitalisation and digital skills within the social dialogue agenda. Build Back Better – G7 agrees on large infrastructure plan

At the weekend, the G7, the Group of Seven richest democracies, agreed on developing a large infrastructure investment plan for developing countries. A taskforce will work out concrete proposals by autumn. A particular priority will be an initiative for clean and green growth to drive a sustainable and green transition in line with the Paris Agreement. Being market led and based on high environmental and social standards, the plan can be interpreted as a counter-initiative to China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

Taxonomy criteria now available in all languages

 

On 7 June, the European Commission formally adopted the EU Taxonomy Climate Delegated Act. The Taxonomy criteria are now available in all languages. The Council and the European Parliament have no more than 6 months to scrutinise and either approve or reject the Delegated Act.
