This year, Athens served as a key hub for the European dialogue on water resilience and the challenges of climate change, as it hosted the Annual FIEC Conference on May 16, 2025, titled “Building Tomorrow: Solutions for Water Resilience and Blue Infrastructure”, with PEDMEDE as the organizing body.
To mark the occasion, the European Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and Circular Economy, Ms. Jessika Roswall, addressed the participants via a recorded message, clearly highlighting the importance of the construction sector in the effort to strengthen the resilience of Europe’s water systems.
This message holds particular significance, as it coincides with the publication of the New European Water Resilience Strategy, officially announced by the European Commission on June 4, 2025. The Strategy recognizes water as a strategic resource and emphasizes its sustainable management through better implementation of legislation, integration of resilience solutions into national policies, and support for innovative projects—where the role of the construction sector is decisive.
PEDMEDE, for its part, remains firmly committed to shaping and promoting solutions that enhance infrastructure resilience, highlighting the contribution of the Greek technical sector to the European dialogue on water and the environment.
