FIEC and EFBWW meet Commissioner Timmermans Head of Cabinet

On 25th June, FIEC and EFBWW, the social partners of the construction industry, met Mr. Diederik Samsom, the Head of Cabinet of Commissioner Timmermans, in order to discuss the EU Green Deal and the EU recovery plan.
FIEC and EFBWW emphasised that, for these strategies to be successful, the construction industry needs sufficient workforce with the right skills (i.e. green and digital); a coherent overall approach taking into account all relevant legislation, including health and safety aspects; adequate investment; and EU and national social partners to play a strong role.

Michail Daktylidis re-elected President of PEDMEDE for the years 2020 – 2023

FIEC addresses its warmest congratulations to Mr. Daktylidis for his re-election as President of our Greek Member Federation, the Panhellenic Association of Engineers Contractors of Public Works (PEDMEDE).
Mr. Daktylidis, a Civil Engineer, has been FIEC Vice-President since 2014.

Parliament and Commission discuss TEN-T review

On 23 June, Members of the Transport Committee in the European Parliament had a discussion with representatives from the European Commission, including Commissioner Valean, on the review of the TEN-T Regulation.
At the centre of discussions were the necessity to enforce Member States’ compliance with the provisions of the Regulation, the role of the TEN-T with regard to the Green Deal as well as the quaility of the TEN-T infrastructure.The European Commission stressed that the comprehensive network will have a more important role to play as similar infrastructure is required for guaranteeing the functionality of the TEN-T. Moreover, the Commission underlined the importance of maintenance and resilience of infrastructure.

Urgent action needed to secure EU autonomy over data

Construction companies and construction industry federations were amongst the audience listening to FIEC’s webinar last week on “Ensuring a clear and fair relationship with software companies”.  Speakers included MEP Iskra Mihailova, who emphasised the importance of current EU policy developments on data and Arian Zwegers, from the European Commission’s Directorate for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG Connect), who spoke about some of the specific actions being taken at EU level, including the European cloud project GAIA-X. Representatives from Royal BAM Group nv and Eurovia supported FIEC’s recent position paper on the subject, which was presented by FIEC Vice President José-Michaël Chenu.
