Resilient during the crisis, but no full recovery in 2021
The 2021 edition of FIEC’s annual Statistical Report is now available online. It shows you how the European construction sector performed in 2020 and where it is heading towards.
In a nutshell: Construction has proven itself resilient during the crisis, but will not reach pre-crisis levels in 2021. The European environmental and climate agenda offers great opportunities for the sector.

Quicker permitting for cross-border TEN-T projects
On 14 June, the Member States adopted the “smart TEN-T” Directive which aims at accelerating permitting procedures for cross-border infrastructure projetcs on the trans-European transport network (TEN-T). It will cover projects that are part of pre-identified sections of the TEN-T core network and those where the total costs exceed €300 million. For these projects, a maximum time limit of four years will apply to the entire permit-granting process.
The legal act now needs to be adopted by the European Parliament and will enter into force twenty days after its publication. Member states will have two years from the directive’s entry into force to transpose its provisions into national law.
