First step for the “Construction 2050 Alliance”

On the initiative of FIEC, together with CECE (Committee of European Construction Equipment), CPE (Construction Products Europe) and EBC (European Builders Confederation), 40 representatives of the main EU organisations supporting companies involved in the construction process met in Brussels, in order to set the basis for the “Construction 2050 Alliance”.The main objectives of this Alliance are to contribute to building the sustainable Europe of tomorrow and to raise the awareness of the EU institutions, of the political importance of the construction sector . FIEC calls for action to protect software users in the construction industry

FIEC has published a position paper on the relationship between users and software companies.  Working with its member federations over a number of months, FIEC has been looking at the impact of increasingly unfavourable licence agreements, which are offered by a dominant few software providers, mainly from outside the EU.  Amongst other things, the paper calls for the urgent creation of a European cloud and measurers to ensure that the user has the right to choose where data is hosted.  Welcoming the imminent European Data Act, the federation nevertheless believes that more needs to be done to protect the user, including rules for the operation of multiple-user-access platforms.  The full position can be accessed on the link below.

Belgian social partners discuss undeclared work in construction

On 20th February, the Belgian social partners of the construction industry organised a conference on how to tackle undeclared work. This conference was organised in close cooperation with the respective Labour Inspectors.
This event was one of the national initiatives being organised by the EU project “Tackling Undeclared Work In Construction” (TUWIC). FIEC is undertaking this project together with its social partner EFBWW.
The final conference  will take place on 19th and 20th March in Zagreb, Croatia.
On this occasion, national partners will report on their own initiatives and FIEC and EFBWW will launch the European prevention campaign against undeclared work in construction.

Commissioner Vălean presents future transport policy in Parliament

 

On 20 February, European Commissioner for Transport Adina-Ioana Vălean presented the basic elements of the upcoming Strategy for Sustainable & Smart Mobility in front of the Transport Committee of the European Parliament. The publication of the strategy is expected for the fourth quarter of 2020 and will set out the key policy areas and initiatives for the coming years.
The overriding priority for the European Commission will consist of reducing the environmental footprint of the transport sector while ensuring safe, affordable and available mobility. The construction industry will play a key role when it comes to achieving these objectives by maintaining existing infrastructure in order to reduce congestion and allow for smooth and safe mobility, by constructing new infrastructure to connect regions and people and by making infrastructure smart to set the basis for new mobility.
