Steep increase in construction material prices, FIEC appeals to the EU Commission

As already pointed out in one of our recent newsletters the significant price increase in construction related raw materials and products is currently adversely affecting construction companies throughout the European Union. Porto Social Commitment

On 7 May during the first day of the Social Summit held in Porto, the President of the European Parliament, the Portuguese Prime Minister currently holding the Presidency of the Council of the EU, the European social partners and civil society organisations pledged for a more inclusive and more social Europe. Partners committed to ensure that at least 60% of all adults participate in training every year but also welcomed the European Pillar of Social Rights Action Plan, which supports fair and sustainable competition in the Internal Market through innovation, quality jobs, decent wages, adequate working conditions, safe and healthy working places and environments, equal treatment and fair mobility.

Commission publishes Spring Economic Forecast

The European Commission has revised upwards its economic forecasts. According to the recently published Spring Economic Forecast, EU economy is expected to grow by 4.2% in 2021 and by 4.4% in 2022. By the end of 2022, all Member States’ economies will have reached pre-crisis levels.

When it comes to construction, the European Commission predicts that total investment in construction will rise by 5.1% this year and by 5% in 2022. Except for the Netherlands, all countries are expected to show solid or even spectacular growth rates in 2022.
