The European Employment Services (EURES) published its Report on Labour Shortages and Surpluses 2023. The report presents the latest data on labour market imbalances across Europe. It highlights that many of the listed shortage occupations belong to the same occupation groups, including construction trade workers. The report includes a chapter on “Causes of labour market imbalances: an exploration of shortages in construction sector”. It identifies a number of factors behind these labour shortages such as an ageing workforce, the lack of attractiveness of the sector, the low level of female employment or the green and digital transition.
