EU-China Summit,
Connectivity Platform

During the 20th EU-China Summit, which resulted in Joint Statements and Agreements, the 3rd Chairs’ Meeting of EU-China Connectivity Platform took place in Beijing. This forum deals with infrastructure links in the broad sense. Such connectivity of infrastructure is considered a priority and an important basis for EU-China cooperation and development. This Platform usually meets once a year and is supported by an Expert Group on Investment and Financing Cooperation meeting, the aim of which is to identify pilot projects and priority actions for both the Trans-European Transport Network and the EU-China cargo train routes. It is planned to strengthen synergies between China’s BRI and the EU TEN-T, including the strategic land and sea corridor planning, covering the Western Balkans, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, West Asia and other areas.

In line with previous Chairs’ Meetings, both parties confirmed their commitment to market-based principles and international standards. They agreed to promote openness, transparency and a level playing field in the area of infrastructure connectivity, in projects under the EU-China Connectivity Platform.

FIEC and EIC (for “defensive” and “offensive” interests of the European Construction Industry) will continue to follow these developments with much interest and will actively contribute their specific expertise to these principles becoming a reality in the infrastructure markets in Europe, China and other parts of the world that are concerned.
