A legal perspective<\/em>\u201d. This study, led by Erik Sinander, Associate Professor at Stokholm University, examines the legal implications of restricting subcontracting following the call of the European Parliament \u201c<em>to introduce an EU general legal framework limiting subcontracting and ensuring joint and several liabilities through the subcontracting chain<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The study warns of the legal complexity and EU fragmentation that could result from introducing restrictions on subcontracting and potentially destabilising a wide array of industries from construction and manufacturing to logistics and other services.<\/p>\n<p>FIEC welcomes this study which brings legal perspectives to a hot topic in the European debates.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td align=\"center\" valign=\"middle\" bgcolor=\"#e40613\" width=\"150\" height=\"35\"><a href=\"https:\/\/eei-institute.eu\/publications\/restricting-subcontracting-practices-a-legal-perspective\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>EEI STUDY<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row margin_bottom=&#8221;50&#8243; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1568973883443{margin-bottom: 25px !important;}&#8221;][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/4&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-38122\" src=\"https:\/\/pedmede.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/FIEC-EU-Commissioner-Dan-Jorgensen.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"487\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pedmede.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/FIEC-EU-Commissioner-Dan-Jorgensen.jpg 650w, https:\/\/pedmede.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/FIEC-EU-Commissioner-Dan-Jorgensen-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;3\/4&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"null\">FIEC with EU Commissioner Dan J\u00f8rgensen at the &#8220;EU Water Resilience Coalition&#8221; meeting<\/h3>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>FIEC took part in the &#8220;<em>EU Water Resilience Coalition<\/em>&#8221; meeting attended on 2 September by the EU Commissioner for Energy &amp; Housing, Dan J\u00f8rgensen, in Brussels, at the European Commission.<\/p>\n<p>Discussions focused on:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Relevance of &#8220;<em>Water Resilience for Energy and Housing<\/em>&#8221; and appropriate funding (MFF priorities).<\/li>\n<li>Cooling power plants account for 32% of water withdrawals in Europe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>\n<p>FIEC highlighted that electricity generation is a major contributor to rising water demand, while supply is increasingly limited. Across the EU, 23% loss of treated water in the distribution network. This overproduction of purified water leads to an overconsumption of energy for operating treatment facilities and pumping stations, including related GHG emissions.<\/p>\n<p>An estimated EUR 23 billion investment gap (0.1% of EU GDP) to meet existing legal requirements. The current combined annual investment in water infrastructure across the EU is around EUR 55 billion.<\/p>\n<p>FIEC also stressed that the actions outlined in the &#8220;<em>EU Water Resilience Strategy<\/em>&#8221; will require the active involvement of the construction ector. Achieving the goal of a resilient and sustainable future can only happen in collaboration with contractors. The anniversary will be at the core of the CIF Annual Conference 2025, which\u00a0will take place on 30 September\u00a0at Croke Park, Dublin.<\/p>\n<p>The Conference will bring together senior sector leaders, policy-makers and other stakeholders to discuss developments across the county to facilitate the successful delivery of crucial policies to support a viable construction industry.<\/p>\n<p>The CIF is a leading Irish organisation for the construction sector, advocating for a thriving and competitive industry to support national development, as detailed on their website and in events like the CIF\u00a0<em>Southern Construct Summit<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In the spotlight of the celebration is\u00a0the incredible women shaping Ireland\u2019s built environment. Ahead of this year&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Women&#8217;s Day\u00a0<\/em>(last 8 March), and in time for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cif.ie\/internationalwomensday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>CIF<\/em>\u00a0<em>International Women\u2019s Day Summit<\/em><\/a>, the Irish federation launched a dedicated webpage showcasing more than 100 inspiring women: leaders, innovators\u00a0and ground breakers across construction sites, the corporate world, and beyond. Their careers highlight the evolving opportunities for women within our dynamic industry. CIF&#8217;s key message is outstanding: From engineering to project management, sustainability to sitework, the future of construction is diverse, inclusive, and full of possibility.
